How It Works
JazzLab Northwest small groups consist of adult musicians who have studied privately and/or have some jazz and improvising experience all the way up to serious, semi-pro players and full-time music teachers. Each 5-7 person group is crafted with the aptitude and experience of its members in mind. This is the perfect setting for jazz experimentation and growth! As a group!
Small groups meet twice a month for 2 hours each time, year-round.
Each session is $80 and JazzLab Northwest provides the studio, prepares the music, forms the groups and coaches the sessions.
YOU JUST SHOW UP READY TO PLAY IN YOUR REGULAR BAND!
Current students pay for 2 sessions at the beginning of each month and have no obligation to continue the next month. They keep coming back as they all agree there is nothing like this!
- Learning how to play in a band and be a contributing member is a main focus – including non-verbal communication, pro-level group dynamics and focused listening.
- Useful jazz theory, analysis and composition as well as melodic development are discussed in every class
- PLAYING (not lecture) is the main focus. This is where you will put into action your many hours and years of practicing and private study. You will have plenty of time to just play with your band but will still leave with a clear understanding of what to practice for the next session.
- RECITALS and GIGS are a main goal. When your band is ready, we will play in public venues and clubs for your friends and family to hear.
